Learning to play the guitar can be an entertaining and satisfying experience. There's nothing better than performing in front of your friends and family by playing their favorite guitar songs. To be successful guitar player, you need to start from the beginning. First off, your guitar needs to be in tune, otherwise every note you play will sound awful. Without tuning your guitar on a regular basis, the strings will become stretched and sound distorted. E-A-D-G-B-E is the standard guitar tuning. Although there are other tunings, it is best to start with this one first.
Once you have tuned your guitar, you can start playing some notes with it. To play a note, pick a string and push down to the neck at one of the frets with one finger, and pluck at the string with the finger on your other hand. Experiment with different frets on the same string. Congratulations, you are playing the guitar.
With this new found ability to play notes on your guitar, the next step is to figure out how to play some basic chords. Looking at a standard guitar chord chart, try to find a few chords that you can play. It will take some time to train your fingers to play chords properly, but don't get frustrated. You will get the hang of them, and eventually you will be able to transition between different chords effortlessly.
You may become bored learning these simple notes and chords. There is nothing that will inspire your guitar learning faster than being figuring out how to play your first song. For this, you should find some guitar tabs to play. Guitar tabs are great because they allow you to start playing songs without having the ability to read sheet music and there are tabs for almost any song. The tabs are basically a diagram that shows the 6 strings of the guitar together with numbers that represent the fret you should press for each note. What you should do is just pick an easy song to learn and go over it until it becomes natural for you to play. Take your time, and you will be playing the song in no time. Although there is still much to learn, you are now on your way to mastering the guitar.
