A great place to learn Spanish is in Monteverde, Costa Rica. In Monteverde, there are two large schools where your class size ranges between four and five students. If you would rather work only with one person, you can hire a private instructor.

If you are considering private lessons, make sure you look into the teachers experience. Or if you know any locals in town, ask them for advice. Private lessons are a great way to jump start you speaking Spanish.

Before you start paying for lessons, make sure that you really want to learn. It is important that you understand that the process is challenging and will be difficult at times. Give yourself to the language and you will be speaking soon.

Find a family that will you can live with for at least a month. Then schedule classes everyday for three or four hours. Each day after class, spend time practicing your Spanish with locals

When you need inspiration, make your way to Hidden Canopy. It is a tree house hotel that offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Nicoya. Spend an afternoon or two studying on the patio while the sunsets.

Make time every night to communicate with your host family. Review your new words or phrases with them. They can correct you and help you practice correct pronunciation.

When you have a free hour try to watch a Spanish TV show with subtitles. Listening to Spanish music could work too. Both can help you pick up common phrases.

Remember that your success depends on you practicing. The pay-off in the end will be great and why not practice in a country where the beauty of the mountains can solve any problem. The locals in Monteverde love to help, especially if you try.
