Allowing the non-required flow of liquids is what termed as leaky. A faucet may be leak in the kitchen. A leaky faucet can be priced more if proper care is not taken as if left unnoticed then many drops of water will be assembled to form gallons of waste water.

To fix it you first need to figure out what kind of faucet you have so that you can get the replacement parts. A common mistake is to get a wrong replacement part. Visually compare the old and new parts to make sure they are the same, even if an experienced plumbing store person picks it out for you.

Whether the faucet is leaking or not shutting, the problem to the solution is to replace the cartridge. One has to follow the steps one by one before fixing the leaky faucet. Turn off the water supply to the leaky faucet. Water shutoff's are often located under the sink but in older homes there may only be one main water shut off for the entire house, usually located where the water pipe enters (often facing the street).

Open the faucet and let any water in the pipes drain out. Put a towel in the sink bottom. Faucets have small screws and you don't have to lose one down the drain.

Remove the faucet handle. Virtually all handles are attached with a screw often hidden under a decorative cap that can be pried off with a small screwdriver. Remove the workings of the faucet and determine what kind of repair is required.

There are five kinds of faucets: compression, washer less, cartridge (sleeve), ceramic disk, and ball type.

A compression pipe banks on rubber washers to lock the valve seat. Rubber washers tired out and has to be replaced with a new one from time to time. The other types usually called washer less pipes, has more durability but those can also create leaks. When these cartridge, ceramic-disk or ball-type faucets leak, you can only get a new O-ring or neoprene seal that making the leak to cause or completely get a new one.

O-rings comes in size like from 3/8 to 5/8 inch, so it is very difficult to find a suitable one for your faucet.
