Once you have decided to go for a cruise, it will be necessary to decide which cabin you go for. Much like selecting a hotel room of course, but with certain other issues you'll have to take into consideration. After all, hotel rooms tend not move all that much; and with cruise ships being very much floating hotels, your cabin hopefully will!
Of course, you may not be spending a great deal of time in your room. A cruise after all is very much a means of transport to visit new and exciting destinations. Or they were; now cruise ships play a big part of the vacation themselves; providing entertainment, internationally recognized restaurants, and even casinos. The large number of activities is seemingly only bettered by the number of cabin options available!
It is important to select the right cabin for you, particularly if enjoying an extended vacation of over 7 days. As wonderful as cruises are, you will inevitably want to spend a little time on your own, or perhaps just have a midday snooze.
If you are on your first cruise, or perhaps a short break of no more than 5 days, an Inside Cabin will be more than adequate. Well furnished, and with all modern appliances, these are great if you just need somewhere to regain your energies at night. Fully enclosed, they have no access to the outside of course, which can put people off.
Also referred to as a Standard Cabin, you can expect twin beds, air conditioning/heating, compact shower room or wet room facilities and sufficient storage.
Inside Cabins on cruise ships are also available with the addition of a window or porthole. Slightly more expensive, the view given is nothing more than the sea itself. It does of course allow you to be aware of the outdoor light.
If you are keen to have the sea breeze blowing through your hair, a Balcony or Veranda Cabin is the next step up. Slightly bigger than Standard Cabins, these often come with a small seating area off the bedroom. The biggest difference of course is the outside area; usually accessible through sliding doors.
These are an excellent choice for couples, and it is lovely to be able to sit on the balcony and read a book, or enjoy a glass of wine together. Private sunbathing is not recommended however, as the balconies are quite narrow and can often be overseen by your neighbors!
From here cabins become Suites. Anything from a mini-suite, (much like a Balcony Cabin with a full bathroom), right up to Presidential/Honeymoon/Superior, (or any like grandiose name), Suites are available.
When deciding which cabin type to go for, remember to consider the location on board. For the more adventurous, a Bow cabin at the front will be thrilling. However, substantial motion is to be expected here. Lesser motion will be felt in the lower decks; but your cabin choice will most likely be limited to Standard Cabins.
The cabin type you opt for on cruise ships will definitely affect how much you enjoy your vacation. However, life on an ocean wave is great fun, (when you don't have to do any work), wherever you stow yourself.
