Carpet Cleaning Methods You Can Handle

by Guest Author

When it comes time to clean the carpet, it's hard to know which method is the best one to use. These methods can range from using a regular vacuum cleaner to renting a machine for the job. The following information is to aid in the decision of which type of carpet cleaning process might be the best for your carpet.

Foam Method - A special machine needs to be rented or purchased for this type of cleaning. It looks similar to a buffer, with the brushes working small amounts of foam into the carpet. After the foam dries, it can be sucked up with a vacuum cleaner. The drying generally takes around two hours.

Shampoo Cleaning - This is one of the original processes used to clean carpets. It is similar to the foam method; a machine can be purchase or rented and it has bristles to scrub the carpet with.

These are both mixed as they come out of the wand. The carpet is squirted with solution, the bristles on the wand work it into the carpet, then it is sucked back out. Once the water going from the carpet to the reservoir begins to become clear, that area of the carpet is clean. It will take many times to get high traffic areas clean.

Bonnet Cleaning - This method includes placing what looks like a bonnet over the base of a buffer-like machine. The bonnet is soaked in a cleaning solution before it goes over the buffer. As the bonnet goes over the carpet, dirt is picked up. Eventually, the bonnet will need to be rinsed out and re-dipped before placing it back onto the machine. Drying time is about 30 minutes for this bonnet process.

Powder Formula - Professional carpet cleaners have been known to use this formula, due to the lack of drying time. This quick process only has a 15 minute waiting period after the powder is added to the carpet. Once the wait is over, the powder is ground into the carpet, and then sucked up with a vacuum cleaner.

Steam - Professionals also use this process. This is the preferred method for deep cleaning a carpet. There isn't actually steam involved, but there is extremely hot water used.

There is hosing attached to the wand and it is usually clear so the water color can be viewed. When the water becomes clear, this usually means the carpet is clean. The strong suction of steam cleaner machines today shortens the drying time of the carpet a lot.

No matter what carpet cleaning method is chosen, it is always a good idea to vacuum the carpet thoroughly before beginning the cleaning process. Whether carpets are professionally done or cleaned with a rented machine, it will be easier to perform any methods above if all the furniture is removed in advance.

No matter what type of carpet or rug that you have, Denver CO Carpet Cleaning can take care of all of your problems quickly.
