5 Reasons Workplace Safety Isn\’t Boring

by Tom Gonzalez

It really doesn\'t take a genius to improve workplace safety. If you can implement a simple, repeating little system, you can do away with a lot of the excessive hand-wringing that comes with trying to get your workplace \'up to code\', as it were.

If you\'re wondering what to cover first, and what areas you should be checking up on on a regular basis, we\'ve prepared this helpful list that will let you systematically go through everything you need to do.

#5: Don\'t Ignore Those First Aid Kits.

Don\'t ignore those first aid kits. You need to keep them well-stocked, and the only way to do that is by double-checking them on a regular basis. You never know when someone\'s dipped into one for some bandages or rubbing alcohol, so set yourself a little schedule.

#4: Cover Your Fire Safety Rules.

There\'s a certain nonchalance about fire safety that means people don\'t take the right precautions all the time. You need to bust them out of this habit, any way you can. Set regular dates, and cover all the things that can happen when a fire gets out of control. When people understand the risks, they\'ll understand what to do.

#3: Keep Medical Supplies on Hand.

Depending on the type of workplace you run, you might have a need for further medical supplies beyond what the common first aid kit offers. Whether it\'s blue band aids or eye washes, you need a clear idea of exactly what your workplace requires, and a simple system to know when restocking is necessary. Set dates in your calendar in advance, and stick to them.

#2: Do Workplace Safety Training.

Take training as seriously as possible, which, for a lot of businesses, means simply doing it in the first place. Don\'t think of first aid courses as optional -- think of them as obligatory.

#1: Don\'t Take it Lightly.

Treating safety as something that is only necessary once an accident has already happened isn\'t the way to go. Make sure that safety is in the forefront of your mind, especially if you run a business, and you\'ll ensure that more accidents are prevented than caused.

Workplace safety means not only having fire extinguishers and first aid kits in your office, but to know that all of your employees are aware what to do if an emergency occurs. Be responsible for your employees health and organize first aid courses in your workplace now.
